A Naturopath’s Guide to Eating Well When Life Gets Busy and you have histamine issues ……..
How to support your liver, gut, lymphatic system and cellular energy—even if you only have five minutes to prepare breakfast.
I’ll Let You in on a Little Secret…
This week’s blog didn’t begin in my kitchen.
It began while I was walking around my local supermarket and health food store.
I had every intention of creating a beautiful breakfast recipe filled with colourful vegetables, fresh herbs, homemade toppings and nourishing ingredients.
Then reality set in.
As I wandered through the aisles, I found myself thinking exactly what so many of my clients tell me every day…
“This is wonderful… but who has time to prepare all of this?”
I’m a naturopath.
I spend my days teaching Food as Medicine.
Yet I’m also a business owner, a practitioner, a mum and someone whose days often become much busier than planned.
If I occasionally struggle to find time, I know many of you do too.
That shopping trip reminded me of something I have always believed…
Healthy eating doesn’t have to be perfect.
It simply needs to become part of everyday life.
We Have Made Healthy Eating Far Too Complicated
Social media has convinced us that every healthy meal needs to be photographed beautifully.
Every vegetable must be organic.
Everything should be made from scratch.
There are dozens of ingredients.
Countless steps.
Hours of meal preparation.
It’s no wonder people become overwhelmed before they’ve even begun.
I believe we’ve unintentionally taken the joy out of eating well.
Food should nourish us.
Not exhaust us.
As naturopaths we encourage whole foods because they provide the nutrients our bodies recognise and utilise so beautifully.
But nowhere does it say that you must chop every carrot yourself to receive those nutrients.
My Shopping Revelation
As I continued shopping, I noticed something.
There was beautifully prepared organic quinoa ready to heat.
Freshly cut rainbow vegetables waiting in the produce section.
Ready-washed herbs.
Organic nut and seed blends already mixed.
Suddenly I smiled.
Someone had already done the preparation for me.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Those vegetables were still vegetables.
The quinoa was still quinoa.
The herbs were still herbs.
The seeds were still whole foods.
The only thing that had changed was the amount of time it would take me to prepare breakfast.
Instead of spending thirty minutes chopping, I could have a nourishing meal ready in five.
Sometimes convenience isn’t the problem.
Poor food choices are.
There is a very big difference between convenience foods and ultra-processed foods.
One simply saves you time.
The other often removes the very nutrition your body is asking for.
Learning to recognise the difference can completely change your relationship with healthy eating.
Progress Is Better Than Perfection
One of the biggest barriers to improving our health is believing we have to do everything perfectly.
We tell ourselves…
“I’ll start next Monday.”
“I’ll wait until life settles down.”
“I’ll meal prep when I have more time.”
The trouble is, life rarely slows down.
Instead, I encourage my clients to make healthy eating easier.
Because the breakfast you actually eat is far more valuable than the perfect breakfast you never find time to prepare.
If buying pre-cooked organic quinoa means you’ll eat breakfast instead of skipping it…
That’s a wonderful choice.
If ready-prepared vegetables mean you’ll eat six different plant foods before work…
That’s a wonderful choice.
If an organic seed blend means you’ll increase your intake of healthy fats, minerals and fibre…
That’s a wonderful choice.
Health is built through hundreds of small decisions repeated consistently.
Not through occasional perfection.
Food as Medicine Should Fit Your Life
As a naturopath, my philosophy has always been simple.
Food should work for you.
It should fit around your family.
Your career.
Your children.
Your appointments.
Your busy mornings.
Because when healthy eating feels achievable, it becomes sustainable.
And sustainable habits are what create lasting health.
That’s exactly why I’ve created two versions of my Morning Reset Jar.
One is designed for life’s busiest weeks.
The other is for those times when you have a little longer to prepare food and enjoy the process.
Both are nourishing.
Both support your body beautifully.
Neither is “better” than the other.
They’re simply different ways of achieving the same goal.
Why This Breakfast Is So Powerful
Every ingredient has been chosen for a reason.
Not because it’s fashionable.
Not because it’s expensive.
But because each ingredient contributes something unique.
Some nourish your beneficial gut bacteria.
Others provide fibre that supports bowel health.
Some supply healthy fats that help build flexible cell membranes.
Others provide antioxidants that help protect your cells from everyday oxidative stress.
The colourful vegetables deliver an incredible range of phytonutrients.
The herbs contribute protective plant compounds.
The healthy fats help you absorb fat-soluble vitamins.
The protein keeps you satisfied while supporting muscle repair and healthy metabolism.
This isn’t simply breakfast.
It’s dozens of nutrients working together in harmony.
Just as nature intended.

Remember…
Healthy eating isn’t measured by how many hours you spend in the kitchen.
It’s measured by the choices you make consistently.
Sometimes you’ll cook everything yourself.
Sometimes you’ll grate every carrot, toast your own seeds and prepare your favourite homemade dressing.
Other weeks you’ll happily buy beautiful ready-prepared vegetables, microwave organic quinoa and sprinkle over a quality organic seed blend.
Both choices are nourishing.
Both choices support your body.
Both choices are Food as Medicine.
The healthiest breakfast isn’t the one that’s perfect.
It’s the one you’ll happily make again tomorrow morning.

Charmaine’s Kitchen Wisdom
