Everyday Ailments Consults Explained

What Is an Everyday Ailment (Acute) Consult?

An Everyday Ailment Consult is a short, focused naturopathic appointment designed for time-sensitive or everyday health concerns — the kinds of issues where early support can help reduce severity and recovery time.

In your 30-minute phone or Zoom consult, we focus on:

  • What is happening right now
  • Which body system is under stress
  • What support is appropriate at this stage

Based on this assessment, I prescribe TGA-approved, practitioner-only herbal medicines, with in-clinic pick-up or postage available.

When This Service Is the Right Fit

This service is well suited when:

  • Symptoms have come on recently or flared suddenly
  • You want guidance quickly rather than “waiting it out”
  • You prefer professional assessment over self-treating
  • Short-term support may help you recover faster

If your presentation appears complex, long-standing, or requires investigation, I will always let you know and recommend a longer consultation where appropriate.

Why Choose a Naturopath for Acute or Everyday Health Support?

As a qualified naturopath with a Bachelor of Health Science, I am trained to:

  • Assess symptoms safely and professionally
  • Prescribe practitioner-only herbal medicines
  • Consider medication interactions and contraindications
  • Support the body’s systems rather than simply suppress symptoms

This is professional healthcare, delivered in a timely and accessible way.

Is an Everyday Ailment Consult Right for You?

This consult is a good fit if you:

  • Are feeling unwell today and need support quickly
  • Have an acute or short-term health concern
  • Want professional guidance rather than self-prescribing
  • Are looking for safe, appropriate herbal medicine
  • Need support without committing to a long consultation

This consult may not be the right fit if you:

  • Have complex or long-standing health concerns
  • Require in-depth investigation or long-term planning
  • Are experiencing severe, worsening, or urgent symptoms
  • Need emergency or specialist medical care

If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to contact the clinic for guidance — or book a longer naturopathic consultation instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Everyday Ailment Consult?
A short, focused naturopathic appointment designed for acute or short-term health concerns, allowing access to professional assessment and prescription-only herbal medicine without a long consultation.

What does “acute” mean in this context?
Acute refers to symptoms that come on suddenly, flare unexpectedly, or require timely support to prevent worsening or prolonged recovery.

How is this different from a full naturopathic consultation?
Everyday Ailment Consults focus on immediate concerns. Full naturopathic consultations are designed for chronic, complex, or long-standing issues requiring deeper assessment and planning.

Can I receive herbal medicine the same day?
Yes. Where appropriate, herbal medicines can be prescribed following your consult, with in-clinic pick-up or postage available.

Do I need to know which herb I want?
No. Herbal medicines are selected and prescribed based on professional assessment. The A–Z Herbal Remedy Bar is for education only.

Is herbal medicine safe for acute issues?
When prescribed by a qualified practitioner, herbal medicine can be a safe and effective option for acute and short-term concerns.

Can this replace seeing my doctor?
No. This service does not replace medical care, investigations, or emergency treatment.

What if my issue turns out to be more complex?
If further assessment is needed, this will be identified during the consult and you may be advised to book a longer appointment.

PROFESSIONAL PRESCRIBING SUPPORTED BY EDUCATION

Many of the herbs prescribed during Everyday Ailment Consults come from my Herbal Remedy Bar — a curated collection of practitioner-only herbal medicines used for acute, short-term, and supportive care.

To support safe and informed use of herbal medicine, I have created the A–Z Herbal Remedy Bar below.

A-Z Herbal Remedy Bar

CLINICAL HERBAL MEDICINE WITH CHARMAINE D, NATUROPATH

Welcome to my A–Z Herbal Remedy Bar — a growing educational library of medicinal herbs used within my clinical practice as a qualified naturopath and herbalist.

This space exists to educate, not encourage self-prescribing. Herbal medicine is powerful, individual, and most effective when prescribed with insight into the whole person — not just a symptom.

Each herb listed here is one I use thoughtfully and professionally within my scope, using TGA-approved herbal medicines, and always with individual assessment in mind.

Herbal Remedy Bar Explained

What This A–Z Is (and What It Is Not)

This A–Z is:

  • An educational resource explaining how herbs work in the body
  • A window into how herbal medicine is used clinically
  • A reference for clients who want to understand why a herb has been prescribed
  • A safe way to explore herbal medicine responsibly

This A–Z is not:

  • A DIY guide to self-prescribing
  • A replacement for personalised healthcare
  • A “take this for that” shortcut list

Herbal medicine works best when the right herb, dose, form, and combination are matched to the individual.

How to Use the Herbal Remedy Bar

You can browse the herbs alphabetically, read the detailed clinical blogs, and begin to understand:

  • Which body systems a herb supports
  • How herbs influence physiology, not just symptoms
  • Why some herbs are restorative while others are situational
  • When professional guidance is essential

Prescription-Only Herbal Medicines

Liquid Extracts, Capsules & Tablets — Prescribed Professionally

Herbal medicine is often associated with liquid tinctures, however professional herbal prescribing also includes capsules and tablets.

In my practice, I prescribe TGA-approved, practitioner-only herbal medicines in a range of forms, selected according to clinical need, safety, and individual preference.

Why Herbal Form Matters

Herbal medicine is not “one size fits all.”

The form a herb is prescribed in — liquid extract, capsule, or tablet — influences how it works in the body and how it fits into daily life.

Depending on your presentation, I may prescribe:

  • Liquid herbal extracts (tinctures) for acute support, fast absorption, and flexible dosing
  • Herbal capsules or tablets when consistency, convenience, taste sensitivity, or longer-term support is more appropriate

The choice of form is part of the clinical decision-making process, not a preference or trend.

When Capsules or Tablets Are Used

Prescription-only herbal capsules or tablets may be recommended when:

  • Long-term or steady dosing is required
  • Taste or alcohol content is a concern
  • Digestive tolerance needs consideration
  • Travel or work routines require convenience
  • A standardised dose is clinically appropriate

These products are not the same as over-the-counter supplements and are only available through qualified practitioners.

Quality, Safety & TGA Approval

All herbal medicines prescribed in my practice:

  • Are TGA-approved
  • Meet pharmaceutical manufacturing standards
  • Are selected with attention to interactions, contraindications, and individual health status
  • Are prescribed within my scope as a qualified naturopath and herbalist

This ensures your herbal medicine is safe, appropriate, and effective — not guessed or self-selected.

Part of a Professional Herbal System

Whether prescribed as a liquid, capsule, or tablet, herbal medicines form part of an individualised treatment plan, which may include:

  • Short-term support for acute or everyday concerns
  • Longer-term herbal prescribing where appropriate
  • Education through the A–Z Herbal Remedy Bar
  • Ongoing review and adjustment as your needs change

The goal is always the same:
the right herb, in the right form, for the right person, at the right time.

Ready to Book?

If you are feeling unwell today, an Everyday Ailment (Acute) Consult may be all you need.
If your health concerns are ongoing or complex, a longer naturopathic consultation may be more appropriate.

Support starts with a conversation.

  • Book an Everyday Ailment Consult

  • Access professional herbal care — safely and appropriately

IMPORTANT PROFESSIONAL NOTICE
Everyday Ailment Consults are designed for acute or short-term health concerns. Herbal medicine is prescribed within my scope as a qualified naturopath and herbalist using TGA-approved products. This service does not replace emergency or ongoing medical care. Always seek urgent medical attention if symptoms are severe, worsening, or concerning.
